I'd be the b*tchy mom at the playground
I'm sorry. I know you're not supposed to correct or discipline other people's children, but I do. I will not let my child be harrassed or have other kids be mean to him at a playground. I don't care what their mom's might think. Sometimes I don't think the parent is paying attention, and sometimes I don't think they care.
Today we went to a playground nearby. It's in a pretty upscale area. When we arrived we were the only ones there. Shortly, a mom and 2 boys arrived. B. was having a great time playing and simply said "weeeee" and he swung around on the equipment. One of these boys, probably around 4 or 5 looked at him and said 'who cares' real sarcastically. It hit a nerve. Probably because of everything we're going through at preschool. I looked at him and said "BE NICE" and then "play nice". His mom heard and asked the child what the problem was. She asked if he was playing nice, and he said "no", so she took him aside to talk to him. The other boy, who was 7 and B. continued to play together. The little boy ended up sitting on his mom's lap the whole time. I don't know if he was in trouble or just didn't want to play anymore. I felt kind of bad, but not really. The mom could have said something to me, but she didn't. They didn't stay very long.
After they left another mom came with a 2 and 4 y/o. B. and the boy had a great time, and I had a nice chat with his mom.

You know Gayle, I don't blame you! I was at the park with Robby on Saturday and he was playing inside a small "tunnel" slide. I was trying to coax him out when this older boy came along and went down the slide while Robby was still in there! >:( Then he went to climb over Robby and kicked him in the head. Robby didn't get hurt, but I flipped out and said "HEY! Watch it, you just kicked my child in the head!!" Followed by a few "Where's the parents?!" comments when he didn't acknowledge it.
my children are 11 and 14 years old now but boy does this bring back memories! You've gotta do right by your kids and speaking to other children and telling them to be nice and to play nice is just part of it. But then again you know what...I find myself still doing that now. When kids are being mean you just HAVE to interupt that bad behavior and head it off. I stand up and appluad you!
