Preschool decisions

We've been trying to decide what to do about preschool next year. DH really wants to try to get W. into the Montessori Charter School (k-8) in 2008. We thought we would put him into Montessori preschool next year, to help his chances and to get him ready.

I went and visited one of the nearby Montessori preschools. Let's just say I was underwhelmed. I'm not sure what it was, but I just wasn't that enthusiatic about it.

So, I called the Charter school and asked about a tour, and whether or not the lottery to get in is a true lottery or weighted for Montessori experience. She said that they have changed their charter, and it is now a true lottery! What a relief. He still may not get in, but that's okay too.

I think we will just let him stay where he is. Its not ideal, but its not bad either. At least he seems to enjoy it. To me, preschool should be more about the social aspect of learning to play with other kids and be away from mom. Montessori seems so focused on acedemics so early. I'm not opposed to that kind of learning for his actual schooling, just not preschool. And, it doesn't hurt that we can save the $3000 tuition for his college books!
